I’ve been reading the poetry of Wendell Berry lately. It’s inspiring and causes me to slow down, hang on every word, and appreciate this form of art. While I don’t consider myself a poet, I used to write song lyrics and found great pleasure in doing so. And while I believe lyrics and poems are different forms of writing, I think they’re closely related.
I haven’t been inspired to write the kind of articles that normally appear on this site. Therefore, I tried my hand at poetry. In many respects, I was completely out of my element. Yet, the crafting of these words was quite enjoyable. It felt poetic.
This poem is called Our Father’s Field.
A pastel,
A dazzling display
We gather then scatter like seashells.
A moonlight,
A darling dilemma
What movements that moment we came.
Now fall back. Set the land on fire!
A dazzling display
Nothing to gain here
Nothing to lose
Let's dance like wheat in our father's field.
