Summer in the Book of Revelation

Memorial Day, at least in the United States, is the unofficial start of summer. Many people have plans for how to spend this season—perhaps vacationing, reading, or catching up on house projects. A part of my plans includes diving into the book of Revelation.

In August and September, my church will be preaching through this fascinating book. I’ve been tasked with finding resources for our congregation to help them along the way. Not only will people be encouraged to read Revelation, but there will be resources for sale at our Connect Area for those wanting to dive deep.

I’m not looking for technical, academic commentaries, though I enjoy those. I’m searching for books that are more accessible, though biblically faithful.

In this post, I’m going to list the books I’m reading or exploring through the summer. There has been much written about the book of Revelation. So, finding good resources should prove easy. I’ll keep this post pinned to the top of the page, as I’ll be updating it throughout the summer.

Please let me know if you have any good resources for the book of Revelation.

Blessings to you! And happy summer.

A Companion to the Book of Revelation – By David L. Mathewson

So far, this book is extremely helpful. It’s a companion and commentary of sorts, though it’s very readable and avoids being technical. It made the list first because Dr. Mathewson was my New Testament professor at Denver Seminary. I loved his approach to teaching and his wisdom in interpreting Scripture. This book highlights his interpretive abilities. He grounds his interpretative approach in the first century, thus avoiding modern, speculative views.
